Massimiliano Simi
Biography
Dr. Simi has a PhD in Medical Robotics, an MBA and more than 15 years of experience in Surgical Robotics. Inventor of more than 50 patents, he founded MMI in 2015 to bring robotic motion precision into Microsurgery supported by a 100M$ investment.
Massimiliano Simi is the Global Vice President Research & Development and one of the founders of Medical MicroInstruments Inc. (MMI).
He designed the smallest articulated surgical instrument and founded MMI back in 2015 to bring robotic motion precision into Microsurgery. Supported by a 24M$ Series A (2018), the product obtained CE certification in 2019 and it is currently installed in EU; the recent 75M$ Series B (2022) is supporting the path for FDA approval and US market launch.
With more than 15 years of experience in the robotic surgery sector, Massimiliano is inventor of more than 50 different patents and responsible for company research, design, validation and innovative products release.
Before starting the company, as Lead Engineer at MEDRA, he provided technical solutions in the field of robotics and mechatronics to medical device companies based in the Bay Area.
Dr. Simi has a Ph.D in Medical Robotics from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Pisa and completed an Executive MBA in 2016.
